Ruston Kelly Delivers Haunting Cover of Taylor Swift's 'All Too Well': Exclusive
Ruston Kelly is well known for his cinematic storytelling and folk-rock influences, and now the singer-songwriter is sharing his unique interpretation of Taylor Swift’s pop-country hit “All Too Well.”
Originally featured on Swift’s 2012 album Red, “All Too Well” finds the country turned pop star reminiscing about her long gone ex. Kelly puts his own haunting spin on the track with yearning vocals, delicate percussion and soaring instrumentation.
The singer says he chose to record “All Too Well” to better understand the song and to “be a part of the powerful feeling it gave me when I first heard it.”
"'All Too Well' is one of those special songs that never leaves you,” Kelly tells Billboard. “It follows you and haunts you and sticks to you because it reminds you of what you thought you’d finally forgotten. It teleports you to old magic feelings, the little perfect moments in a relationship way ahead of its doom. It shows you how happiness with someone can feel so infinite and true. But it calls to the end of things and it shows the color of the flame. It fucks you up. A large testament to Taylor and Liz’s [Rose] craftsmanship no doubt.”
Kelly’s version, which Billboard premieres below, will be released on March 29 as an Amazon Original and will be available to stream and purchase on Amazon Music. Kelly released his debut album, Dying Star, in 2018. He serves as support on Patty Griffin’s tour in April.
